The FR\u03b1 test is performed for the administration of mirvetuximab soravtansine<\/strong> and is aimed at patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer <\/strong>who are FR\u03b1-positive <\/strong>and have received 1-3 lines of therapy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 19, 2024, the EMA issued a positive opinion for the administration of mirvetuximab soravtansine to patients with FR\u03b1-positive, platinum-resistant ovarian cancer who have received 1-3 lines of therapy, based on the phase III MIRASOL study<\/a>.
In the US mirvetuximab soravtansine<\/strong> is FDA approved since March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our pathology lab in Thessaloniki now performs the test for this specific biomarker (FRa).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Determination of FOLR1 (FR\u03b1) expression is performed in our laboratory using the FDA-approved Ventana\u00ae FOLR1 (FOLR1-2.1) RxDx Assay <\/strong>(Ventana Medical Systems, Inc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In clinical practice, the sample is considered FOLR1 (FR\u03b1) positive if the neoplastic cells show moderate (2+) to intense (3+) complete or incomplete membrane staining in 75% or more of the sample. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sample is acceptable if it contains at least one hundred viable cancer cells. A positive external control is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
